Dear Tim and Mike

It is actually very difficult to think of someone outside LSHTM and a health
rather than climate person.

I do consider it very important that the following people should be invited
from LSHTM

Clive Davies vector borne diseases, mapping and modelling
Katrin Kuhn - vector borne diseases, mapping and modelling has just done
some very good work on modelling the impact of climate change on malaria in
Europe. She could present this.
Menno Bouma cholera and malaria and climate.
David Bradley always a star!

For the thermal heat/cold topic although several groups are working on
this, they are competitors rather than potential collaborators.

My thoughts on potential sessions which could address the following

1) health and IAM/global modelling Pim can talk about how health should be
integrated into IAM which is provocative to some people.
2) Mapping climate factors for malaria and other vector borne disease i.e.
the technical approaches to modelling...given teh post rogers critiques..
Katrin Kuhn/Clive Davies

3) Methods of quantifying the health impacts of climate change WHO Global
Burden of Disease Diarmid Campbell-Lendrum, [Guidelines for national
assessments..me ]
4) Climate change impacts in developing countries urban and rural
populations/ water related diseases Sandy Cairncross.
5) Adaptation indicators work of Nick, Graham etc..

The real problem, as I see it is to get some research done in developing
countries.
Prof. Sandy Cairncross works on diarrheal disease and other water related
diseases he is an excellent contributor and wonderful person. It would be
great if he could come along.. he would help identify datasets and other
things..

Non-epidemiologists/vector biologists that would be interesting would
include
 Ference Toth is trying to put health into IAM, and presented at
Snowmass. So is Richard Tol but he can be difficult.
 Roger Few - works on vulnerability to flooding and approached me
after the Adaptation Workshop last October.
Is Neil Adger coming along?

If you want someone provocative then there is of course, the Oxford Group.
On reflection, I think that David Rogers would be more obstructive than
constructive. Simon Hay is quieter in person however, we are generally
familiar with this arguments and I doubt repetition of the debate would take
the science forward.

I would also like to suggest inviting Dr Bettina Menne from WHO Rome who
has a good overview especially regarding the policy and adaptation
perspective. She is coordinating the CCASHH project.

Sorry not be more help there are very few of us out there. However, if
your budget runs to the US/Australian scientists let me know.

I also think we should be looking at quantifying the health benefits of
mitigation policies which is covered by the air pollution folks e.g.
Paul and Ben.

Hope this helps..

best wishes

sari

Sari,

As part of the climate-health workshop on 16/17 October, we are trying to
get some leading researchers from outside the co-op to participate. We will
ask them to provide some stimulating thoughts on how to take forward the
whole climate-health area, to help us in our thinking.

We have already nominated two individuals from here (Pim Martens, Steve
Lindsay). I have been trying to get two nominees from Paul, but without any
success. Since we need to get the invitations out ASAP, I am now approaching
you, and asking you whether you know of any suitable individuals who might
be willing to come...!

Answers in an email within 24 hours please!

Sorry for he short notice...
Tim
