   Dirk
that is great news. Give me a week to respond to your points. I am in Switzerland next week
and will meet with Dominique Raynaud and other organizers to refine details. Thanks again
for accepting - will be in touch

     Dear Keith,
Thanks for inviting me to the October meeting in Avignon. I moved an earlier
commitment, and can now confirm my attendance.
Do you need suggestions for possible contributions from us ? It's probably a
bit early to do a worthwhile review of Time Stream 1 climate variability in
Africa; well-dated records are still very scarce. Significant new data from
several sites are likely to appear in the next year or so, maybe in time for a
review at the PEPIII conference in Aix-en-Provence next year.
The decade-scale rainfall/drought record for equatorial East Africa has now
been extended back to AD 200, data which may contribute to the discussion on
     abrupt events.
Also, several of the records which appeared over the past year show
chronological links between decade-to-century scale variability in African
rainfall, Atlantic Ocean circulation, and the N Hemisphere temperature
variations over the past millennium, with suggestions of solar forcing in all
of them. Maybe the time is right to start discussing possible mechanisms by
which the tropics may have transferred decade-to-century scale solar forcing
to higher latitudes: streams 1 and 3 of your session structure.
     Best wishes,
     Dirk.
