Bianca Jagger will join leading Greens including Margaret Wright and
Jean Lambert MEP in launching a fortnight of climate change
campaigning in the second half of July.

The campaign will begin on Saturday 14 July with a demonstration against US
President George Bush’s abandonment, under pressure from US energy
corporations, of the Kyoto agreement to cut CO2 emissions.

Bianca Jagger comments: “I welcome the Green Party’s decision to boycott
Esso.

“Transnational corporations have an obligation to the global community on
issues of social responsibility.

“Esso’s executives believe that human survival may simply not be economic.
They need to understand that human survival must transcend shareholders’
interest.

Don’t put a tiger in your tank

“I am asking everyone not to put a tiger in their tank until Esso stops its
opposition to the Kyoto Protocol, abandons its call to open the Arctic
national wildlife refuge for drilling, and start seriously investing in
renewable energy.”

Beyond Kyoto

The Green Party’s campaign will include diverse activity around England &
Wales,
ranging from street stalls and public meetings to pickets of Esso stations,
as well
as a boost to the Home Energy Conservation Bill campaign and the launch of a
new report on the costs of climate change.

Green Party Principal Speaker Margaret Wright concluded: “The Kyoto Protocol
is an important part of the picture, but we need a broader campaign.

“Kyoto established the framework for international agreement, but its
targets were insufficient.

“So while campaigning for the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol, we
must also demand tougher targets for the UK, and the Green policies to
meet them.”

'Global Warning' Talk establishes West Norfolk Green Party

Saturday 14.07.2001, 1pm, at Greyfriars Primary School, main Hall,
Kings Lynn, the Green Party principal speaker Margaret Wright is going to be
introduced by Chair for the afternoon,Richard Moorish and she will speak
on the future of East Anglia under sea level rises.

Ron Bailey, an excellent speaker from the Association for Energy Conservation
will address the meeting, as to how important renewable energy generation is
for all of us.

Rob Tinch from Norwich Green Party will speak on the main policies and aims
of the Green Party and this will be followed by a Norfolk Green Party
meeting, establishing a West Norfolk Green Party, enabling interested
members and providing a political
focus in an environmentally active region of Norfolk.

Prof. Tim O'Riordan, from UEA's School of Environmental Science commented
on the subject of temperature and sea level rise.
He said: " The climate of the future is what we make it.
According to the IPCC, ( Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) the world
can
expect a rise in temperature as large as 6 degrees by 2100, or as little as
2.5 degrees centigrade. The difference between temperature forceasts depends
on the societies and the economies we create within the next 30 years.
Within the lifetime of one generation, our children will experience sea level
rises by either 50 centimeters or as low as 20 centimetress above current sea
levels, reflecting a temperature rise of 2.3 degrees or 1.2 degrees
respectively. Take your pick , it's up to all of us."

Norfolk Green Party is welcoming everyone to their talk with interesting
speakers and their meeting afterwards.
