    Neil,
I've sent an email to David W. to test the water. Enjoy Maynooth - maybe David will
be there to ask directly !
    Cheers

I have had some better communication with IPCC since Jean is running WG2! I only know
about WG2 though - only those 3 CLAs - Nicholls, myself and Saleemul Huq who is based in
London but has a Bangladesh affiliation.

Robert and I were both consiering asking for travel + cost of a chapter meeting here in
UK (likely to have to host one during the period - but minimal cost since most people
pay for themselves) + 12 months of RA time at fairly junior level (immedfiate poast-doc)
for research assistance and to help organise meetings.

If we could agree that this is a common demand, then that would be helpful.
Unfortunately I am away from Monday for a week at the IPCCC Expert meeting on
uncertainty in Dublin. So I suggest that you approach DEFRA separately to Robert and I
but ask for the same thing - what do you think? Robert - any thoughts?

           Neil,
I talked with David Warrilow a month or two ago about it and he said any UK CLA
          would
get travel support to go to the meetings. Apart from this, I've not done anything
          more
           about it.
By the way how do you know who the other CLAs are? I only found out on Tuesday
when Susan Solomon rang. I've just got the formal letter, but I can't open the
          other
attachments I've been sent - just asked them to send them again ! Not a great start
          !
Are there other UK CLAs in WG1 and/or in WGIII?
Anyway back to DEFRA - what are going to ask for in addition to the travel. Do
          you want me
to send him an email ? I could always use some additional support, so how much
          (months
and what level) are considering asking for?
I'm here next week but away from Thursday for much of the rest of the month, so
          if
we can co-ordinate it would be good. Tried ringing, but no reply.
           Cheers
           Phil

On a different issue - I hear that you have agreed to be a CLA in next IPCC WG1
report. Have you negotiated any financial support from DEFRA?

I am also a CLA in WG2 - the only other UK CLA in Wg2 is Robert Nicholls from
Southampton. Robert and I were about to approach David Warrilow with parallel bids
for funding - not salary but aminly money for travel and some research assistance.

Let me know if you have already sorted this or if you would like to talk about it.

The New CE of the Met Office is a UEA Graduate. Does anyone recall him in ENV? Was
he in ENV? Would probably be useful to invite him up to his alma mater when he's
          settled in?
           Cheers
