    Scott, Mike,
So it is possible to get a revision made to the Bauer line in Figure 8 if you have
   the
time. If between you both you can do this then fine. I'm happy either way.
If you do get time, Scott, remember .eps files and cmyk. Also you need to send them
two files (see below for where to send them). One should in colour, the other in black
and white. For the others all Tim did hear was convert the colour one to grey scales.
We didn't do anything else like changing line styles. The B/W versions will only be in
the issue itself at the right place with the colour ones in a set of plates also in the
   issue.
The reprints and the pdfs will have the colour in the right place. I know this doesn't
   make
much sense but this is how they do things for Reviews of Geophysics.
    Cheers
    Phil

     Dear Dr. Jones,
Thank you for your message. Your paper has come to Editorial.
Dr. Mann may send revised Figure 8 to me. Following are instructions for this. Please
notify me via e-mail when the figures have been posted so that I can retrieve them.
Save your files as your paper number. For your figure, use the
     following format: 2003RG000143-f08.eps and 2003RG000143-p08.eps.
Please post to the following ftp site: URL:
     [1]ftp://agu.org/incoming/copyedit/rg
If you use Netscape 4.76 or earlier (do not use v. 6 or 7), go to
[2]ftp://agu.org/incoming/copyedit/rg and then go to File and choose
"upload file". This will post it to our site. If you are using
Internet Explorer, do not log in because you will be asked for a
password; just drag your files into the AGU folder; this should make a
copy of the files and post them there.
I have looked at Figures 2 and 6, and it looks as though the parts will fit on one page
as you request. However, because articles in the print issue no longer all begin on a
right-hand page, we cannot guarantee that Figures 4a and 4b will appear on facing pages.
After editing, there will be follow-up questions, which I will send via e-mail. I hope
to have these ready by ~15 March. Depending upon the time necessary for resolving
questions and barring any unforeseen difficulties, your proofs should be available
before you leave. However, I can easily copy Dr. Mann on messages so that he is up to
     date on everything.
Feel free to contact me if you have additional questions or any concerns.
     Best regards,
     Maria Lindgren

      Dear Maria,
Carroll suggested I should contact you about the proofs of the above paper. If
     you've
not got everything for this paper yet can you keep this message until you do. It is in
the pipeline to come to you soon.
I was going to contact you next week to see when the proofs might come, as the
potential dates suggested by others at AGU might be a problem with my travel in April.
I'm away April 12-30 and will only be able to check my email remotely and occasionally,
so won't be able to respond as quickly as you would probably like. In order to cope
with this can you also send any email to my co-author Mike Mann (mann@virginia.edu).
Mike is cc'd on this message as well as me. I'll also not be able to check reference
details easily as I'll be away from my office/library and not have journal access.
On another matter related to the paper, Mike would like to replace Figure 8 with a
revised version. The change is just to use an updated version of a series sent to us by
a colleague. Figure will be the same size. Is this possible? Mike is getting the
     revised
figure done and I've given him your email address.
Also related to the figures, we were hoping (relating to cost grounds) if Figs 2
     a,b,c
could all be on one page. Similarly Figures 6a and b should also be on one page.
Figures 4 a and b should go on to two pages and they would look best on facing pages.
If these aspects can be incorporated into the proofs then there should be 9 pages of
colour (Figs 1-8, with 4 being on two pages).
      Cheers
      Phil

     Dear Phil Jones,
I passed the information on to Maria Lindgren, mlindgren@agu.org, but you may want to
discuss the details with her in a week or two (give us some time to get the paper to
     her).
