<x-flowed>I have had another go at re-working the first part of this chapter--see 
attached & ignore earlier version sent.
Now it starts with the "large-scale" reconstructions --Mann et al, then 
Briffa et al 2000, noting their differences.  It then examines briefly 
other reconstructions and discusses possible reasons why they aren't 
identical.  I include explicit discussion of the MWE & LIA, then end by 
examining the 20th century in light of these data.
Regional studies then follow.
