I am well aware of this , but we need to look into the possibility of some longer -than 500
year runs anyway (ie potential for HOLCLIM under FP6?). The solar forcing is possible based
on C14/and Be (as is some volcanic series)

Keith - have you forwarded this to Simon? We could only follow the feedback if
Simon/Hadley Centre are planning to run 1500 year simulations with HadCM3, and then some
     similar runs with HadGEM1. Tim

     Dear Keith
Your proposal was awarded an alpha 4 by the steering committee and recommended for
     funding.
The committee provided the following feedback:
     a) the study could gain from being extended back to cover the last 1500 years - to
include the warm period. Given the 4 year length of the study, this was felt to be
     feasible.
     b) when the new Hadley Centre model HadGEM1 is available, extension of the study to
include results from it could be considered (as it will better represent Atlantic
     coupled processes).
NERC will give consideration to the travel and subsistence, and consumables elements of
your proposal and the outcome will be detailed in your award letter.
If you have any question regarding this feed back, please feel free to contact me.
     Regards, Meric
p.s. please note that you, together with one other member of the team if desired, will
be expected to attend the RAPID PIs kick-off meeting on 21-22 Jan. 2003, and to give a
brief presentation on your project (more details of the meeting to follow).
