Dear Philippe,

Re the glacier model : You can make the 20th century melt
bigger/smaller by moving the ELA (1961-1990) up and down, Ives should
know this. He should use a value that gives in his view a sensible
1961-1990 global mass balance (this is the rate of change of volume
over that period). I am not sure what value he is using.

I am going to send you a couple of emails about Gerry Meehl's project.
You will see that Jonathan has already sent in a proposal. Also you
will see that Tom and I etc. are doing likewise. You might consider
doing one as well for yourself. It will be a fine data source for years
to come and a project ie access to the data is a fine starting point
for proposals for funding etc. Would also take some of the power out of
Jonathan's hands - as the open letter makes clear. You might ask
yourself why Jonathan has not forwarded the letter to you.

Cheers,

Sarah
