<x-flowed>Dear friends of merry science... I've been talking to Greg Zielinski
about the meeting. He's on the fence, mainly since he just got a new
job (at U Maine) and is thus more busy than usual. He's also
finishing a book that is due soon. You know the story.

Anyhow, I think it would be a mistake not to have a STRONG volcanic
forcing component at the meeting - in part to balance the solar
enthusiasm, but also since I'm guessing that volcanoes did more than
we all think to Holocene climate. I know Keith is up to elbows in
Euro politics on the programme, but think that we should follow Bard
with Greg on the plenary speaker list. Eduard has that neat new paper
in Tellus on solar forcing but is not an expert on volcanic forcing.
Greg is the best guy in the world on that topic and we should get him
to come by offering him a plenary slot.

I cc'd this to him to make sure he'd be up for the idea, but also to
see if he has new perspectives/data on volcanic activity/forcing
during the Holocene (as opposed to the last 1000 years alone).

Anyhow, getting more focus on forcing is much needed, and getting
Greg's participation would be the single best way to move in that
direction.

Comments? Ideas? Remember that we all wanted this meeting to be different.

Thanks! Peck
